Organizing Your Computer

Working online can leave you with all types of files, contacts, links and lists on your desk. Organizing your computer and organizing your thoughts is going to boost your business, and it will help you communicate with your customers easily. Organizing is going to involve creating files, folders, and using the information on your computer to expand your business possibilities.

First, take a look at that desktop on your computer. No matter how hard you try, sometimes you can feel as if you are have too many notes to yourself and you might have many things on that desktop that you need to pay attention too. What you need to do is create two sides to your 'desktop'. One side is going to be the icons to your programs you use the most. If you don't use it at least weekly, delete the shortcut and clean up those icons so you can see more of your desktop, you see more of what you use the most and what you need to pay attention to more often.

Now you are going to create a few folders on the opposite side of your computer screen. On this side of your screen, the folders you create should be labeled by type of product, type of work you have to do, or by client. You can even give these folders titles that include the date, so you know when a product is due, or when the 'tasks' in that folder must be completed. Move the folders, to do lists and things on your desktop into their appropriate locations. Organizing your desktop is going to help you succeed in business, and it will help you feel more at ease every morning when you turn your computer on!

Now, take a look inside the icon that has 'my documents' on it. What are you finding in this folder? All types of things you want to save, and many things you just put in that file to clean off your desktop. Taking just a half an hour, you can go through this folder and get rid of many things you don't need. Create a picture folder and put all your pictures in there that are not related to business.

If you have product pictures, create another folder and use the name product pictures, or work pictures and put all your products in there. Do this for all the things in your 'my documents' folder. Create a file for personal letters, and a file for business letters.

Create another folder for music, one for links to where your products are listed, and one for every thing that you can sort out. The more you sort, and the more often you re-label items to what they should be, you will find yourself more organized and you can easily find all types of goodies for your business, when you need it without pulling your hair out!
