Great Marketing and Your Website Design:
How to Earn Your Customer's Trust - and Money
Once you've chosen the perfect color scheme,
you should follow up with an attractive looking font family. As tempted as
you may be to use a variety of unrelated fonts, it is usually best to use
a standard set of fonts throughout your site. For instance, if you choose
Arial for your main text, it would be best to mix it with fonts like Arial
Black and Arial Narrow. If you stay within the same font family, the copy
on your site will maintain a nice, inviting flow and make readers feel
comfortable.
Another thing to remember about font choices
is that when it comes to font, size matters - a lot. If the words are too
large, readers will feel smothered by the huge font size. Alternatively,
if the words are too small, readers will have to focus too hard to enjoy
themselves. Try to choose a standard font size for main text, and a slightly
larger size for headlines. A normal sized font will make your readers feel
comfortable and entice them to keep reading.
After you have your font set up the way you
like it, the next thing to focus on is the amount of white space your website
contains. As you probably guessed, white space is the space on a page that
is not filled with any other material. When people read information online,
they want to give their eyes - and minds - a rest. If there is too much
information clumped together in paragraph form, readers will likely get bored
and move on to the next website that puts all relevant information in front
of them.
White space is an easy concept that will save
you and your readers a lot of time in the long run. A website with a proper
amount of white space should have wide margins so that readers do not have
to scroll their eyes across the entire width of their computer monitors.
You can also include white space within the text of your site by double-spacing
between lines and adding distinctive features like bullets and numbering.
These things will break up the text and make your website more inviting and
reader friendly.
