Don't Click-Bank On It!

Have you purchased a 'product' from ClickBank, Keynetics, Inc. Really? Have you been taken by a worthless ClickBank product and a hyped-up killer sales page used to promote it? You're not alone! There are thousands and thousands of complaints filed at Rip Off Report on these products!

Is ClickBank on it's way out? Have they sunk themselves to the bad side of the Internet? The lowly South Side of Online Merchants? Are they like thieves hawking their wares in the alley? Poor treatment of their vendors along with not validating their vendors; inflated prices; spyware and adware blacklistings; and bogus, worthless ripoff copycat products seem to be quickly becoming the downfall for this monopoly.

It seems like the only ones online who DO stick up for, or claim to like, ClickBank are the affiliates themselves who are making money off of promoting ClickBank products. Rarely, if ever, does anyone who is not a merchant or affiliate claim that their products are good products that are personally written by the 'experts' they claim to be.

Then you have the 'rich jerk' guys at ClickBank who sell you 'how to get rich' ebooks, then explain nothing about making money other than to tell you how you can become their affiliate at ClickBank and sell their junkie ebook, too - and that, my friend, is how they got 'rich'. I guess I would call this a chain-book, as in 'chain-letter'. "I will charge you $100 bucks to buy my ebook - an ebook that only tells you how to promote my ebook for 50% of the $100 I sell it for - my very ebook which is also telling everybody you send to me how to promote my ebook, too - and then I will make even more money off of them. And because you gave me your $100 to learn how to do this I will now have streams and streams of steady and new affiliates willing to pay me $100 and willing to lose even more money by promoting my worthless crap at Google. I, my friend, am a genius. A regular money-making genius!" Huh? And people consistently fall for this crapload, making the rich jerks of this world get richer. Isn't this MLM?

As a for instance, this was found at Alexa.com and at http://www.moneymakergroup.com/index.php?showtopic=20019&st=75

"Rich Jerk Is A SCAM! Don't Listen To These People! They are getting PAID!,

the Rich Jerk is a scam. All the reviews praising this jerk are because he pays people to sell his book, and anyone trying to sell something wouldn't mock their product.

Here's the deal, when you buy the rich jerk ebook, you find out how to sell the rich jerk ebook. All you do is sign up at clickbank, and you can make 50% of every sale. This is why there are thousands of glorious reviews for this crap, because people get sucked into trying to sell it. Don't fall for it.

This ebook is filled with affiliate links, and when you use them, you are making the rich jerk more money. There isn't anything in this ebook that you can't find online for free. This was the biggest waste of money I ever spent, so I returned it and got all my money back. I suggest that if you have already bought the book, to return it through the clickbank website. You will get 100% of your money back no matter what.

If you really want to see what's in the ebook, then just buy it and then when you aren't 100% satisfied (I saw some spelling errors) you can request your money back and still keep the book.

Just be aware the the rich jerk sells your information and you will get phone calls and emails from all sorts of crap. They even called my cell phone.

My advice is stay away from this awful product. "

"Most everyone who has been around on the Net for a while knows of Clickbank and their shady affiliate marketing. Nearly every rogue applicaton on the list is marketed though Clickbank. They use URL redirects and other tricks to mask the identities of the affiliates and their affiliates use unethical advertising techniques. I could cite you dozens of examples. And just look at the list of products on Clickbank's site:

Most of them look very sleazy in my opinion. If I were out to make and sell a quality product and create a good reputation, I would disassociate myself as much as possible from Clickbank."

"Well, as I click on your link this morning, I have to bypass two content filters(AdShield & Hosts) just so I can see your clickbank ad for another scam...PAL. (In response to clickbank asking to be taken off their blacklist of spyware/adware sites)

Thanks for contacting us. We absolutely intend to follow a fair and due process if you feel you're listed incorrectly.

David did some quick research on what others classify your domain as, my own googling an such confirms his. Here are his findings:

------

eTrust states clickbank only has a tracking cookie.

Symantec (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.clickbank.html) states that clickbank " Continuously displays a fake Windows error message and directs you to download software." in order to download an alleged spyware removal product.

webhelper4u lists them (http://www.webhelper4u.com/nontransponders/trekdata/Trekdatawhois.html) as part of the "spywarenuker" gang.

------

The 'average' finding there does put you into what we would consider spyware, or unwanted software. But we're more than willing to listen to your side. If you can refute those listsing we'll reconsider.

Something that would be key in getting off the list is showing us a legitimate product or service that you provide that is not spyware or tracking related. If you an do that we're definitely more apt to reconsider. You mention that you're an ebook retailer, but we can't find on your site anything related to selling ebooks. It only talks about affiliates and commissions. That's a bad sign.

Thanks again for contacting us, we do intend to treat you fairly.

Oooh, two posts in one day. I wonder if I can go for three. Ah well. Not many people read this thing anyway. ^_^ So, here’s the rant. While going through my list of websites I like to check, I happened across this post: http://www.bleedingsnort.com/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=11&showtopic=968. In short, the original poster wanted their domains removed from the blackhole list.

For posterity, I’m posting the entire topic thus far here from http://www.bleedingsnort.com/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=11&showtopic=968.

Please take *.clickbank.com and *.clickbank.net off your blacklists. ClickBank is an e-book retailer that has nothing to do with spyware or malware. It is possible that these domains ended up on your list because Symantec identified a denial of service virus that was pointing traffic at our domain names.

ClickBank is a service provider for over 20,000 small publishers of popular e-books and software. These niche products are promoted by our network of well over 100,000 affiliates.

We are like a mixture between Amazon and Paypal. We’ve been handling payments and affiliates since 1997. In fact, if you do a Google search for “clickbank and amazon” or “clickbank and paypal”, it is easy to see the correlation.

We take great care to police our clients and our product quality. We have strict terms of service, and any violation of it typically results in immediate account termination. But, as you can see from our plea here, it only takes one or two bad clients to cause us huge amounts of grief, and damage to our brand name.

If one Amazon affiliate or Paypal merchant were to point a virus at amazon.com or paypal.com, they would terminate the client immediately, and 404 the traffic. We are no different. The difference is that no one would think of blacklisting amazon.com or paypal.com, and Symantec would never name a virus after them. Our brand name is simply less familiar than Amazon and Paypal.

Even so, ClickBank products are widespread and easy to find. Go to Google and search for “clickbank and ” any topic on which you can imagine finding information worth purchasing at a book store. Here’s four out of over 20,000 clients:

http://www.classical-guitar.net/
http://www.goodbyecitylife.com/garden-birds.htm
http://www.sitstayfetch.net/
http://matholymp.com/

If there is one key point here it is this:

Blacklisting our domains interferes with the livelihoods of tens of thousands of legitimate web site owners.

If you have an issue with a specific domain name that happens to reference ClickBank, we hope you will resolve the matter by blacklisting the problematic domain rather than us, the service provider. You can also send an abuse report to abuse@clickbank.com so that we can promptly terminate any offending accounts.

Now, in case you weren’t following along, clickbank is not who they say they are. Visiting their website myself shows absolutely no signs of ebooks. Instead I see affiliate listing and links to download software, which my guess is that the software vendors are not who they say they are either. In fact, clickbank, by its very name, says a link reserve, not ebooks, even if there were ebooks to be found.

Some research on google found some really interesting things. One was allegedly a former user of clickbank that was burned by them.

1c9eef2fa932?q=clickbank&rnum=10&hl=en#13611c9eef2fa932

I would never recommend anyone using Clickbank. Maybe if you strech it
and you sell wery high volume, well retained products that are only
downloadable (duhh, who has that?) The chargebacks will kill any profit possibility. They offer the
chargeback for a whole year (regardless if you(the vendor) want to do this it not)
PLus they charge you $15 fee (bankfee)….
A pure scam IMHO. Also I am still waiting for my paycheck since they
said your signed a contract (huhh) to get paid only when we get sales
from 3-4 different countries? WTF? I don’t remember ever signing or agreeing to anything
like that!!!??? One more unsrcupulous, loser dot com company(scamsters) - I wish they
go out of business tomorrow (geeez, maybe we must wait a few years
yet). Sorry I had to vent….

You can also find several websites that are “authorized clickbank affiliate storefronts.”

A bit more googling found http://www.clickbankebooks.com/. But perusing their directory of “ebooks” shows only software downloads, not ebooks. Software downloads you can’t trust. Software downloads linked from the same company that is alleged to spam and other nefarious activities. No clickbank, I don’t think you will win your crusade to remove that extremely large black mark from your name, not when you can’t be bothered to actually do something about it like going legitimate.

On a search in 08/06 at http://www.ripoffreport.com ClickBank, Click Bank, and clickbank.com ripoffs were listed 17,876 times.

The Better Business Bureau has handled 124 complaints about ClickBank in the last 36 months. Included in these are 17 Advertising Issues; 14 Sales Practice Issues; 5 Delivery Issues; 19 Service Issues; 1 Customer Service Issues; 2 Guarantees or Warranty Issues; 8 Product Issues; 40 Refund or Exchange Issues;  1 Contract Issues; and 17 Billing or Collection Issues. BBB has this to say: "A BBB review of the "ClickBank Marketplace" found that some of the products advertised included work-at-home promotions, government grant offers, government auction information, e-books, and weight-loss and health products. The BBB advises caution when doing business with companies that require an advance fee for information, claim large earnings and short hours with little or no experience. Bureau files nationwide indicate no evidence of anyone making the promised money stuffing envelopes, performing surveys on-line, or getting paid to be a mystery shopper. We suggest that consumers carefully review and understand all company and promotional materials and contracts before paying money up-front for products or services."

The Better Business Bureau cautions ClickBank affiliates who sell or promote certain ClickBank products. According to the http://bbb.org site, "YOU CAN BE A TARGET OF LEGAL ACTION! You can be held liable for perpetrating a fraud by deliberately or even unintentionally promoting and selling fraudulent products or services to others."

"....ClickBank is not a member of this Better Business Bureau. BBB policy strictly prohibits use of the Better Business Bureau name or membership claim when such is not the case. ..."

We expressly request you to instantly report any fraudulent sales pages or sales schemes, ripoff sites and products, or other goods promised by ClickBank that did not make good on the promise.

ClickBank Products and Plagiarism

Plagiarism is very prevalent at ClickBank (see How to Be a Blithering Idiot and Make Money at Clickbank by clicking this link:   http://therichbitchforum.com/clickbankriches.html) .

One author who has numerous books that have been plagiarized received this email from one plagiarizer. While this author was lucky to get their plagiarism material removed from Clickbank (removed by the vendor - NOT by ClickBank), there are still hundreds more plagiarized works left up there. Sales pages change daily, from the so-called-expert authors' names to their 'real life pictures' (which can be found at any photo site such as Dreamstime.com). One author contacted one ClickBank member about their plagiarism of the author's material, and here is the reply that they forwarded to us of what the ClickBank vendor had to say:

~Subject: RE: Your books

From: XXXXX@XXXXX.XXX (the ClickBank member with the plagiarized material)

"I had my book professionally written by an author from the Elance Writers Network. They signed a legal document stating that their writing was extensively researched and is unique and does not infringe on any copyrights. (Note from The Rich Bitch: This paragraph is proof that they are neither the author, nor 'expert' in the field, that they claim to be on their sales page!)

This is very stressful and frustrating to hear that it may have been plagiarized. Her credentials looked good and she stated she was from the united states, however when I received the ebook, it was obviously written by somebody for whom English is a second language. (Note from The Rich Bitch: The Elance author is obviously not very literate, yet is writing a book handing out advice that people will read, believe came from an 'expert' and follow? How scary!)

Then I employed Sarah XXXXX to edit the content of the book and that took her over 100 hours. I am surprised now, due to the poor quality of the original document, to hear that it may have been plaguerised. However I am not surprised in another sense, because this is the 3rd elance author out of the 23 we have employed who has been accused of plageurism. The other 2 we found out about the plagiarism before the e-books went live and we obtained a refund....(Note from The Rich Bitch: Obviously this outfit is in the habit of farming out many, many ebooks for strictly financial gain!)

I’m starting to believe every elance author is a plageuriser. The same author who wrote “How to be XXXXX to XXXXX and XXXXX” also wrote the copy for my hairdressing websites: www.XXXXX.com and www.XXXXX.com and I completely trust her after an initial fiasco with Indian authors who tried to give me plageurised works...(Note from The Rich Bitch: Hmmm, very versatile in his qualified fields of expertism!)

Regards,

XXXXX"

One author wrote ClickBank the following letter, only to have clickbank adamantly ignore it and forward it to the very person they were voicing their concern about. If you ask me this was a blatant misconduct on ClickBanks' part, and an absolute violation of privacy on the vendor's part. We have received a copy of that letter to clickbank and will reprint a portion of it here.

"I am curious as to why the group from New Zealand (they have numerous different aliases including XXXXX, XXXXX, XXXXX, XXXXX, XXXXX, XXXXX (http://XXXXX.com/) etc.,) can come out with a new book (which is NEVER their own works!) and instantly be in the top 10 listing at the clickbank marketplace? Don't you screen for fraudulent or fake purchases (a sudden burst in sales of a new product) that clickbank clients make to push their products to the number one position? Not only do I find this extremely devaluing to us honest authors, but it has become increasingly more and more popular with this New Zealand group. They have numerous books listed with clickbank that they claim to be the author of, yet they pay elance writers to write them. And then *poof* the minute a new book comes out they are in the top ten listing in the marketplace!

I have complained about this group before, as they have plagiarized my own material, and they have admitted it, removing the material and then rewriting it before putting it back up for sale. XXXXX (XXXXX) has already removed his one plagiarized book of mine (when I threatened to bring him to court), but most (if not all) of their products are others' work - just reworded. On top of this, many people are investigating their practices. They are selling a ton of books (that they didn't write) and making exorbitant claims on authorship and professionalism. Plus, as you should be aware of, they have PLENTY more in the works.

I have seen changes in their books - like "XXXXX" was originally authored by "XXXXX" but I pointed out to XXXXX that it was my book (reworded) and so he admitted it, XXXXX and then they changed that book to be authored by someone else now. ? Huh? The XXXXX book for men and women (how to be XXXXX to XXXXX and XXXXX) had an audio with a voice that was the same person as the voice on the XXXXX speeches book ("XXXXX's") but they took that off, put XXXXX's picture on there, with no audio at present. "XXXXX's voice is also on the wedding XXXXX by "XXXXX". They changed the "author" of Maid of XXXXXspeeches from "XXXXX" to the same author as XXXXX - anyway, I long ago concluded that many (if not most of these books) were not actually authored by the person they say - but they recruited the person to be the author in name only. They sell a play XXXXX book; a XXXXX care book; a wedding XXXXX; save XXXXX; day care XXXXX ( http://www.XXXXX.com/ ); catch a XXXXX; how to become XXXXX; great XXXXX letters; etc. They seem to be 'EXPERTS' on an awful lot of diverse subjects, wouldn't you admit? They also have a ton more books coming out soon on all different subjects; I'll show you them if you want. Or you can go to this page and check out some of them http://www.XXXXX.XXX

But they have had their troubles before: check this:

http://www.XXXXX

and

http://www.XXXXX

They also 'violate' the adwords policy and overture. For instance, here is something from the XXXXX wedding XXXXX arena...

http://www.XXXXX.com/

this is Clickbank affiliate "XXXXX" - it's one of their sites.

On the same keyword (best man XXXXX) we have this site:

http://XXXXX.com/ and the aff is XXXXX+1.

Then we have a third one:

http://XXXXX I already know this is his XXXXX's site because he told me this.

Now there is even a fourth one:

http://www.XXXXX/ owned by XXXXX also!

My complaint is they seem to have found a loophole in Clickbank and are amassing mass fortunes and scamming the public, making ALL Clickbank merchants subject to becoming increasingly thought of as untrustworthy and subterfuge. I really wish that Clickbank would watch this outfit more than they are, because they can be the downfall of Clickbank's online credibility, along with that of their merchants! ".

Needless to say, this concerned author no longer deals with ClickBank who didn't even bother acknowledging their email.

DECEMBER UPDATE: Clickbank crooks have done it again! The ebook "101 Tips: The Insiders Secret to Becoming a Man Magnet", has been plagairized at mindcontrol101 and put up for sale via ClickBank. This issue has just been sent to legal council. We will bring you more in the future as we obtain it.

Headline: Authors Sue Google For Alleged 'Massive Copyright Infringement'

"I see someone saying google print goes from store>author. Any author can do this now if they want, ever seen the 5 million crap ebooks on clickbank?"

From http://detectivewho.com/surefire-detective.htm:

"....SureFire Detective - Legal Issues

Detective Product that has become defunct due to legal and copyright issues with competitor (read into this as possible plagiarism). Domain has been shut down.
Surefire Detective was formerly marketed through Clickbank order processor. Vendor also known to defraud affiliates by unannounced commission reduction for a few hours at a time (As if we are really that dumb??), on several occasions without notice. The Surefire detective collapse is likely one of many detective product and internet detective software, company collapses coming in the nearing future."

From http://www.ciwss.com/info/articles3/plaigerizes.htm:

"....several people who had read my e-book, e-mailed me and told me that someone was selling a book that was exactly the book that I had written and promoted for the past two years. The plagiarized version of my e-book was being sold ALONGSIDE my book at Booklocker.com (unbeknownst to them, of course) as well as the plagiarizer's website.

I contacted both the plagiarizer and the owner of Booklocker.com and told them my findings and asked them to please explain. Angela (the owner of Booklocker.com) read both e-books and said that "YES" they were the same book and took them both down from her website until further explanations were available. The plagiarizer e-mailed me, Angela and the various accusers saying she had never seen my book, didn't know anything about me or my book and "how ironic" that we were had similar material.

I replied (to everyone) that it was indeed "ironic" since I had receipts that proved that she had indeed purchased my book and from the existence of the plagiarized copy, read the book. The receipt is dated May 5, 2000 - 8:41:18PM Pacific Time. Clickbank (the credit card processor that I used at the time) confirmed that the plagiarizer did indeed purchase the e-book from me at the stated time. That was all that Angela (the owner of Booklocker.com) and myself needed as evidence. The owner of Booklocker.com, reinstated my e-book, took the plagiarizer's books down and banned her from Booklocker.com..."

"....Content Stealers Should Be Shot! OK, that's possibly just a little harsh… maybe just thrown them out of a two story building, then have their kneecaps shot off. Yeah, I think that's a better solution {GRIN} ;-) I've not only had content stolen, I've had someone purchase an eBook from me and then go-ahead rip me off! The fruitcake (see I'm being nice) COPIED my entire sales letter. He removed my name and inserted his, and even removed my copyright notice and changed it to reference his website."

And from http://findingthemoney.blogspot.com/2006/07/clickbank-eighth-circle-of-hell.html

Clickbank: The Eighth Circle of Hell

Let's take a trip down to the Circle of Hell reserved for liars, otherwise known as ClickBank.

Does ClickBank promote scams? I'm sure they've had a real scam or two, but in general, no. The word "scam" is legally loaded. It's technical.

However, when people do searches like, say, "Is Data Entry Pro a scam?", they're not usually looking for the legal status of the program. What they really want to know is if the system works.

Well, technically, most ClickBank programs "work" - however, the fine print tends to "work " better than the big promises.

Big promise:

Make $1,000 a Day!

Fine print:

(Maybe)

The fine print technically exempts the programs from the term "scam", but not from being big fat liars.

So, let's take a look at the current top programs running at ClickBank:

"Data Entry Pro"

Their line (of BS): "Who Wants To Make a $1000+ Per Day Just Entering Simple Data From Home?"

This program has nothing to do with "data entry". You pay around $100 dollars in order to be informed about and directed to CPC programs like Adwords. CPC programs are not "data entry", and noone needs "Data Entry Pro" to learn how to use them.

Conclusion: Liars.

"Forex Enterprise"

Their line (this'll kill you): "Who Else Want's To Earn $1,000 Per Day, With Our Amazing Multiple Streams Of Income System?"

Hey, guess what: this program has nothing to do with "Forex". Nothing. You pay around $50 dollars to get information on affiliate marketing, "paid surveys", "click for cash", and whatever other information they can find for free on the internet.

Conclusion: Liars.

"Survey Income System"

Their Line (of BS): "Discover an unbelievably quick and easy way to give yourself a big fat pay raise, without leaving your home or risking one penny of your hard-earned money ..."

The money you're "risking" is the $35 dollars they charge for this worthless "system". Beside the fact that there are better, free sources for information on paid surveys out there, there is nothing "unbelievably quick" about earning or getting paid for completing them.

The site is fond of promises like: "I've had earnings of up to $150 an hour!"

Besides the "so what?" factor, even this sort of promise is deceptive; because if the actual hours spent completing surveys were averaged out, most people would be lucky for low single-digit dollar results, if not cents per hour.

Conclusion: Liars. As a bonus, it's even more worthless than the previous two; which is probably why it's at #3.

Bored now. If you simply must use Clickbank, preserve your dignity - find a product you believe in. I'm sure if you dig deep enough you'll find something, probably somewhere around the last (i.e. "least popular) page.

Hmmm? Maybe a big CEO and Master Attorney at Large doesn't care about how he gets his money, but...Hmmm, again, ever wonder where your hard-earned cash went when you spent it purchasing that 'dream' product (with a killer sales page) of ClickBank's? A smart attorney should have investigated the company he chose to represent to make sure it wasn't full of get rich quick scams and bogus, plagiarized materials.
