Bringing Home the Bacon: Extra
Money for Stay-at-Home Moms
If you would rather make extra money without
putting in all of the extra hours, you could also consider taking on a part-time
job that lets you choose your own hours. If you can find yourself an online
position as a virtual assistant, a tutor, a freelance writer, or a bookkeeper,
you can make some terrific money while spending a lot of quality time with
your kids. The trick to working one of these jobs is to work your schedule
around your children's schedules. If you know that your kids take a two hour
nap every afternoon, try to take that time to get some work done. Similarly,
if your children have a certain TV schedule, there's nothing wrong with you
making some extra money while they watch Nickelodeon. Any time that translates
into alone time for your kids can make the perfect work time for you.
Another kind of job that does wonders for the
stay-at-home mom is the field of direct sales. If you work for companies
like Avon, Tupperware, or Mary Kay Cosmetics, you can potentially make a
great deal of money while you have a great deal of fun. Any job in the direct
sales field will give you a chance to mingle with other women and step away
from the children for a short period of time. The great appeal of these jobs
is that you never have to leave the house for more than two hours at a time,
and most of the times that you do have to leave occur well after standard
work hours end. If nothing else, it's much easier to find a babysitter who
will work two nights a week from 6:00-8:00 at night, than to find someone
to watch your children while you work in an office for 40 hours a week.

No matter what kind of job opportunity interests
you, just be sure to ask yourself what you really want to get out of your
working experience. If you are only looking for a bit of extra money, it
would be best to choose a job that will not require much of your time or
dedication. If you are in need of a more substantial amount of money, you
should certainly consider the jobs that will bring in guaranteed money. In
other words, while party companies like Tupperware can be a lot of fun and
bring you some extra funds, chances are that they will not pay for your heat,
hot water, and rent each month. Alternatively, running a daycare will bring
you guaranteed money, but it is not a job that you can simply walk away
from.
When it comes time to choosing how you want
to earn extra money while staying at home with your children, just remember
to think realistically. Consider the pros and cons of each job opportunity,
and try to figure out how each of those will affect your overall lifestyle.
Most importantly, think of all of the wonderful experiences you'll be able
to share with your children while you still manage to be a part of the workforce.
And whenever things seem tough, just think of all the memories your children
will have as they get older and look back on the time you spent together
when they were still small. |
